| Club Dolphin | Hotel | 9,290 sqm | 2021 | Waikkal, Sri Lanka |
The refurbishment of Club Hotel Dolphin in Waikkal redefines the resort’s tropical identity through a balance of preservation and renewal. The building’s structural integrity was maintained while introducing refined interventions—an undulating timber ceiling, rattan furnishings, and carefully composed lighting—to create a warm, cohesive atmosphere that connects interior spaces to the surrounding landscape.
A focal point of the project, the Flippers Bar, was reimagined with cement and clay tiles, rattan light fixtures, and a timber framework that celebrates local craftsmanship while maintaining the original spatial character. Significant transformation occurred in the spa and gym, which evolved from a former reception hall into a serene wellness zone. Here, natural textures, soft lighting, and timber accents evoke calmness and continuity with the resort’s coastal context.
Through the use of sustainable materials and a consistent design language, the renovation reinforces Club Hotel Dolphin’s identity as a contemporary tropical retreat—celebrating warmth, authenticity, and the relaxed rhythm of seaside living. The project’s success was further recognized when Club Hotel Dolphin was awarded the title of Best 4-Star Hotel at the Sri Lanka Tourism Awards.
